Philip Baumann is a certified systemic coach (DGSF) based in Nuremberg. He coaches leaders, teams and individuals in person, on walks and online, in English and German. 400+ coaching hours, coach in Deutsche Bahn development programmes (2021–2024), previously Chief Product Officer (CPO) at Ecosia.
My path
I studied politics and economics in Freiburg and then developed digital products for an audience of millions. At Ecosia, as Chief Product Officer (CPO), I built the product and design teams while the company grew from ten to around a hundred people. That's where I learned what makes good leadership, and often enough what makes it hard.
I've been coaching since 2021 and have been a certified systemic coach (DGSF) since 2025. Most of my hours were with leaders in corporations, mid-sized companies and the public sector. I still work part-time at Ecosia as Principal Product Manager. And I have meditated regularly for many years; it helps me to be fully present in a conversation.
What I stand for
I'm inspired by organisations that want to become more humane, effective and sustainable, and by people who take responsibility for that. I'm also involved in responsible digitalisation, for example as co-organiser of ProductTank Nuremberg.
Humanity
In coaching I see every day how competent, creative and versatile people are. My business is called Karunin, after the Sanskrit word for compassion: for me, the foundation of good leadership.
Meaningful work
I've experienced the world of difference between work that serves a meaningful goal and work that doesn't. That's why I like to support people looking for that difference.
Sustainability
Ten years at Ecosia have shaped me: technology and business should serve people and the planet. Non-profits and impact companies pay less with me, individuals pay according to income.
Honesty and ethics
I say what I see, even when it's uncomfortable. I work to the DGSF ethical guidelines and only accept assignments that are in the interest of the people and organisations I work with.
